When I received an email from the Chair that I've been selected for Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) for the year 2009-2010, I was joyful. Partly because these scholarships are very prestigious, both in terms of honors and amount, and partly as a consolation for myself. Windsor has opened the doors of opportunities for me!
The Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) program encourages excellence in graduate studies at the master’s and doctoral levels.
An Ontario Graduate Scholarship is awarded for one academic year, which may consist of two or three consecutive terms. The value of the OGS is $5,000 per term. Thus, one may receive 10,000 CDN for two consecutive terms or 15,000 CDN for three consecutive terms. The province of Ontario contributes two-thirds of this amount and the university provides one-third.
Number of Scholarships Awarded
A total of 2,000 scholarships are awarded annually. Of these, 60 scholarships are awarded to students who have received a temporary resident visa as a member of the student class under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada)
There are many eligibility conditions that must be fulfilled in order to enter into the competition. Its a province-wide competition and graduate students from over 40 institutions (universities and degree granting colleges in Ontario) apply for this scholarship. Details can be found on their website.
Last year, I got a similar scholarship called Ontario Graduate Scholarship for Science and Technology (OGSST).
To be continued... (may be.)
